Week 6 – Reading Topics

CHAPTER 9 THE LAW OF MAGNETISM To Your Life

If you skipped the exercise of writing down the qualities you desire in your followers, then do it now. Once you are finished (or if you already completed it), think about why you desire the qualities you listed. When you wrote them, did you think you were describing people like you or different from you? If there is a disparity between your image of yourself and of your employees, then your level of self-awareness may be low, and it may be hindering your personal development. Talk to a trusted colleague or friend who knows you well to help you identify your blind spots.

CHAPTER 10 THE LAW OF CONNECTION To Your Life 亲和力法则

1.What does it really mean to “connect with yourself ”? It means knowing and liking who you are. Start by measuring your level of self-awareness. Answer each of the following questions:

  • How would I describe my personality?
  • What is my greatest character strength?
  • What is my greatest character weakness?
  • What is my single greatest asset?
  • What is my single greatest deficit?
  • How well do I relate to others (1 to 10)?
  • How well do I communicate with others (1 to 10)?
  • How likable am I (1 to 10)?

Now ask three people who know you well to answer the same questions about you. Compare answers. If their answers are significantly different from yours, then you have a blind spot you need to rectify. Engage a men-tor, growth and accountability partner, or counselor to help you become more self-aware and to help you value your strengths and deal positively with your weaknesses.

2.Good leaders are good communicators. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate yourself as a public speaker? If you give yourself anything lower than an 8, you need to work on improving your skills. Read books on communication, take a class, or join Toastmasters. And sharpen your skills by practicing your teaching and communicating. If you don’t have opportunities to do that on the job, then try volunteering.

CHAPTER 11 THE LAW OF THE INNER CIRCLE To Your Life 核心圈法则

Great inner circles do not come together by accident. Effective leaders are continually developing current and future inner circle members. How do they do it?

They spend extra time with them strategically to mentor them and to develop relationships.

They give them extra responsibility and place higher expectations on them.

They give them more credit when things go well and hold them accountable when they don’t.

Examine your list of inner circle members to determine whether you are taking these steps with them. If not, make changes. In addition, be sure to use this development strategy with a pool of new potential inner circle members.

CHAPTER 12 THE LAW OF EMPOWERMENT To Your Life 授权法则

How would you characterize yourself in the area of self-worth? Are you confident? Do you believe you have value? Do you operate from an assumption that you have positive things to offer other people and your organization? Are you willing to take risks?

If you rate yourself low in the area of security, you will have a hard time with the Law of Empowerment. You will need to take positive steps to add value to yourself or explore why your self-worth is so low.
